From Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove's essay in "Schools of Conversion"— "Contemplation is about learning to see the world through the lens of the cross. It is a simple confession of the Christian faith that Jesus went to the cross, dies for our sins, and calls us to take up our own crosses and follow him. Christians believe that. But to live your whole life as if that were true—that is something that has to be learned. Mother Teresa is often cited as an example from the 20th century of one who lived a Christ-like life... Rarely, however, do I hear anyone explain the years of contemplation that Mother Teresa practiced in order to become the kind of person who could serve as Christ served."
